Perfecting Spanish competency through guided language immersion and facilitated social and cultural integration is what motivates students at the School in Spain. Well in advance of leaving the U.S., students are encouraged to reflect upon how they want to achieve their goals while in Spain; once in Spain, students work with staff to find ways of integrating into the Spanish language and culture by exploring their own interests.

Logroño is a vibrant city of 110,000 located in the wine-making region of La Rioja, in the north-central part of Spain. The Castillian language has its roots in the area wanders through it. Students enrolled at the Universidad de la Rioja, Middlebury's host institution, immerse themselves in Spanish language, regional culture and cuisine. Logroño's lively population and relaxed pace of  in a location with very few English-speakers.

Students enroll directly at the Universidad de la Rioja in several disciplines alongside their Spanish students, with particular focus on Spanish philology, literature, humanities, and natural sciences.
